Short-tailed Albatross

Birds you've dreamed of seeing, incredible places, a bit of adventure, and fun. It's what Zugunruhe Birding Tours is all about.

We bring you innovative tours that no one else can duplicate the only tours to Attu and St. Matthew, the only dedicated pelagic trips in Alaska, the only trips with excellent chances of seeing Short-tailed Albatross, and the most and best options for Whiskered Auklet. And we're always on the lookout for new opportunities. We pioneered fall tours to Barrow for Ross's Gulls, and we're adding new tours for 2014. In March, we'll be visiting Hawaii to attempt to see all of the remaining endemic landbirds on the main islands.

News:

Space is still available on all 2014 tours, but Attu May 25-June 8 is filling up.

We have a few new Alaska tours for 2014: Whiskered Auklets for Landlubbers, a cruise to St. Matthew Island for McKay's Bunting.

Attu

May 15-25 & May 25-June 8, 2014

We are the first and only company since 2000 to offer a spring tour to Attu, the westernmost Aleutian island and the best place to see Asian vagrants in North America.

Alaskan Seabirds
We have several tours that can get you Alaska's special seabirds:

Aleutian Pelagic
June 8-11, 2014
All of our boat-based trips in the Aleutians are excellent for finding Short-tailed Albatrosses, but this one is head and shoulders above them all. It's also one of the best for Whiskered Auklets.

Whiskered Auklets for Landlubbers
June 12-15, 2014
Want to see Whiskered Auklets and other pelagic species but don't want to spend a long time on a boat? This is the tour for you.

St. Matthew Island cruise
July 1-8, 2014

St. Matthew Island, a seldom-visited island in the Bering Sea, is one of the few places in the world where the beautiful McKay's Bunting breeds. We depart Dutch Harbor and end at St. Paul, so there will be plenty of seabirds along the way: Whiskered Auklet, Red-legged Kittiwake, good chances for Short-tailed Albatross and Mottled Petrel, plus many alcid species.

The Ross's Gull Tour: Barrow, Alaska
Oct 4-8, 2014

Join us and the American Birding Association as we look for some of the magical birds of the Arctic. Our main target is Ross's Gull, but we also look for Ivory Gull, Snowy Owl, Spectacled Eider, and more. We've even seen polar bears, five in 2012 and 3 in 2013.
